Religion II

More men have died in the name of God than anything else. Albeit different gods from different religions but all founded on very similar belief systems with cultural or interpretive differences. These differences may be seen even within religions, one cannot count the number of different sects of Christrianity, Bhuddism, Islam or Taoism but I digress.
Most Religions are based on the fundamental that God is love, maybe worshipped differently with cultural or regional differences. Religion has always been historically linked with power and ultimately war. What better way to control the masses and motivate them than something beyond them? Is there a better way to suppress and opress people? Karl Max called Religion the opium of the masses, the first Roman Emperor (Emperor Constantine) apparently saw the potential to exploite it.
A man must stand for something or he will fall for anything but where does one draw the line with something that demands complete devotion like religion? How does one tell if what he is being told is coming from a true prophet or a sophist? Who gets a bigger crowd the true prophet or the better salesman?
God is love is religion and theres nothing much more to religion than that.
