ZimExpo 2006 Chicago

The party this weekend was in Chicago. The event was the 2006 ZimExpo. Friday might we were grace by the presence of Sekuru Thomas 'Mukanya' Mapfumo. Mukanya had an electrifying performance and we had a chance to sample hits from the upcoming album 'Rise Up!' We also got a chance to hear some of Mukanya's greatest hits like Kuenda Mbire and Corruption. He performed for well over 2 hours. Following Mukanya was music provided by yours truly DJ Swing and the Metromedia Sound Crew from Detroit Michigan. Saturday night it was part two of the ZimExpo series of parties. Again the atmosphere was exhilarating. Music was provided by DJ Chaka Ngwenya of the SARFM radio fame, DJ Bonde of thezonenet.com, DJ Lodza and Djs Aftershock and Swing of Detroit. People really enjoyed themselves although there was discontent when hotel management advised the party would end at 2am. The Miss ZimUSA pageant was world class with Miss Makho Ndhlovu taking the crown. Sunday night was the award ceremony followed by a talent show. DJ Swing managed to introduce to the Zimbo crowd the hit in the making 'Pakura.' The talent show was followed by the final phase of the ZimExpo series of parties. DJ Bonde showcased his talents on the turntables exciting the crowd with a mix of Kwaito, Museve and R&B. Pictures of the events will be posted soon on www.zimexpo.com.

ZimExpo

Well, well. Its only a week till the much anticipated ZimExpo. Believe it or not but the Renaissance Chicago O'Hare Hotel is already booked to capacity. The party is on. Who is making the great trek to Chicago this year? One thing for sure is the atmosphere is electric. Hertz is working overtime right now coz Zimbos like arriving to the Expo in style. What are you riding to the Expo this year - Benz-o, Bima, Audi, Escalade? We will see. For the fellaz are you coming with your girl or are you hoping to score at the Expo? If you are trying to score @ the Expo let me give you a word of advice - For most it will be next to impossible coz Zimbo girls will not give it up on day one if you are not munigga. You gotta have style and be willing to spend a few dollars to score nemuZimbo. Zvisinei I guarantee everyone who attends the Expo will have a good time. On Friday night Andy Brown is to perform along with Thomas Mapfumo. Its party time Saturday and Sunday nite. Tell me if you plan to attend the Expo....

Keep Zimbos Fit Campaign

Word up fellow Zimbos!!!

Well it is summer out here in Michigan and yours truly has taken it upon himself to initiate a fitness campaign. Anyone ever notice how when Zimbos come to the stateside they gain 50 pounds or more. Its not that we become lazy or anything but lack of activity and diet are mostly to blame. After eating sadza on a daily basis for all your life, you can expect a change when suddenly one switches over to the McDonalds, Burger King and fast food in general. Because of work commitments (mashift) many fail to maintain the levels of physical activity they were used to in Zim.

Well things are about to change. Every Saturday at stoney creek, DJ Swing will be hosting a soccer match and training. Emphasis is on fitness and hopefully by the end of this summer everyone would have lost a few pounds of fat and regained muscle mass. Training starts at 1pm. See you at the creek..........DJ Swing.

Think Outside the Box!

Hey Zimbos, word up? What's going on? Well its Thursday nite, well actually Friday Morning out here in Detroit Michigan. So how are you doing today? How have you been coping with the high gas prices? Tough life in the stateside hey?

Well today I simply wanted to perpetuate the idea that we all need to start thinking outside the box to be able to make it in these capitalistic economies. Well I personally grew up with the midset that if you go to school, work hard - you will eventually make it. I later on realized I was a product of social engineering. I had lived all my life believing in the notion that one day an AVERAGE person would be able to rise up and make it. I eventually realized that the persons who had made it were neither average nor had they been conventional in their ways. Bill Gates for example - College Drop Out. Bow Wow make more money that you and my dad combined - yet he just got his drivers license. Tom Cruise, Mr. Lunatic but everyone knows about him from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

Lesson of the day - try not to follow the trends. Be who you are - Esse Quam Videri. Unconventional thinking is what we need, especially in Zimbabwe. One of these days you will attest to the wisdom of DJ. Swing...
