A snap survey indicates the most success full individuals have a significant other (wife/husband). The concept of synergy comes into play - sum of parts is greater than individuals combined. After having lived and shared a life with another sometimes this person may become the most annoying, piece of sh*t you have ever come across. When moments like these arise I urge everyone to take a step back and think of why you initially fell in love with this person. Sometimes you can see yourself looking back into when you initially met this individual. Some time long ago when you would do nothing but good and this person was an angel in your eyes. At these times one gets to realize that I think I actually love my wife/husband. The grass always seems greener on the other side but not many will be with you in sickness and in health. I have grown to understand this statement better over the few years. It is not always a smooth ride - marriage. Kudos to the ones that have held it down over the years.

Religion II

More men have died in the name of God than anything else. Albeit different gods from different religions but all founded on very similar belief systems with cultural or interpretive differences. These differences may be seen even within religions, one cannot count the number of different sects of Christrianity, Bhuddism, Islam or Taoism but I digress.
Most Religions are based on the fundamental that God is love, maybe worshipped differently with cultural or regional differences. Religion has always been historically linked with power and ultimately war. What better way to control the masses and motivate them than something beyond them? Is there a better way to suppress and opress people? Karl Max called Religion the opium of the masses, the first Roman Emperor (Emperor Constantine) apparently saw the potential to exploite it.
A man must stand for something or he will fall for anything but where does one draw the line with something that demands complete devotion like religion? How does one tell if what he is being told is coming from a true prophet or a sophist? Who gets a bigger crowd the true prophet or the better salesman?
God is love is religion and theres nothing much more to religion than that.
Malcolm skiZofrENia

If there is a heart available.........

If there is a heart availabe then we will not allow it to go to waste..........

My will..............I am gonna leave my heart to my son

Well this is a lesson in parenting. Anyone who has considereed to become a parent will eventually come to realize this. You willl do anything for your offspring. If you have been a movie buff as much as I am well you tnow this is a really inspirational movie. The concept of parenthood is one that has been understood by few, me included until recently. Once one understands that a human life depends on him, life is different. You are a father - a sorce of life, in al ot of ways you a are the creator, the life of anotter human depends on what you do and do not do. Little girl looks up on you, little girl expects the world out of you. You realize you are the rock, the main pedesatal. My studies are not at all scientific but I have come to recognize that religious individuals will get to archieve what the average individual will not get to achieve. From the early dyays of man - he has always been able to beleive in at least something. Basic humanity rules dictate that you treat avery human the way you woulf want to be treated. Christianity, Hindu, Judaism, Judiism and Muslim religioun all dictate the same level of conduct. Treat you neighbour like yo want to be treated. Don't worry, i have not been priviledged to a different level of understanding, I am simply expressing convictions that have always been part of me somehow. I have come to realize that with religion will give you a starting and an end point, you recognize what you will and will not do - you get tocategorize what meams someting and what means noting to you. I hope I find you well. In Zimbo we used to refer to the depression associated to January as 'January Disease'. One of the major factors attributing to this 'January Disease' is debt / money issues. In January kids are back to school and we have just come from the Xmas and new year's holidays where we probably overspent a lil bit. We all know how expensive school fees were in Zim. Above that kids needed uniforms and school supplies. The situation is almost the same to Zimbos overseas - in the diaspora. In most states the weather is bitterly cold and we do not have a natural affinity for the cold. One good thing for most of us is that the end of January spells minor relief as we receive those widely anticipated tax refund checks. To most this is a time to let loose and enjoy the small fortune. Dont forget kubhadhara zvikweriti nema credit cards and also to save up for tough times ahead. Let us know your thoughts on this. Well what's been happening? Nothang much I can say. Well over the Christmas holidays I was privilledged enough to visit the UK - London as people commonly refer to the place (although London is a city within England , which is part of the UK bla bla bla) . Well the party scene over in the UK is really happening I should say. In the UK I managed to hang out with the likes of the world famous Chris Goldfinger and World clash Champs Mighty Lion. Going back to how I started the blog - my main motive was to keep my Zimbo community well informed about the entertaiment scene here in the States, especially here in the Midwest. Back to my hometown Detroit, Dee'toi - D-Tweezy as we know it New Year was a major buzz kill for me I am sorry to say. Well for I change I decided to go to this house party. It was bad - really bad. What kind of fuc*in' New Year's party is there no countdown? Man the music was just bhlaah and people ended up taking off before 3am as they were so bored. I guess I know where not to go next time, anyways I'm geting too old for this sh*t. There is that time when one realizes that maybe its time to retire from this PARTY buz. I hope I find all my readers well, sorry the post is kinda all over the place today. I have noticed some Zimbos tend to gravitate towards lovers / ex-lovers of fellow Zimbos. Actually this phenomenon is not only true of Zimbos but for most social groups. For example it is not uncommon to hear that John's ex (fictional name) is now dating one of his friends after breaking up with him. Ideally one may say there is nothing wrong with this phenomenon but there usually is a stigma attached to such relationships especially in the Zimbo community. The problem is eventually everyone in one community is eventually linked to everyone through a former or current girlfriend or boyfriend. I am sure you have witnessed numerous examples of this situation. My thought is people in general tend to be attracted to others close by. It could be co-workers, classmates or in this situation friends partners within the same circles. Once again this is Zimbo Party Central, bringing you the latest and pertinent Zimbo party news from around the world, your thoughts on this topic...Dr. Swing

Sekuru Joe

Marimba semarimba.Svikai zvakanaka vasekuru!

Zimbabwe | When Destinies Collide

Where's the Zimbabwe we grew up in. Yes I was supporting the US if you are still wondering which team I refer to as mine. So how are you enjoying your World Cup experience in 2006? Is it at the local sports bar with a dozen of your favorite friends, or simply at home with a cold one in the right hand? For those not too familiar with football (some prefer to call it soccer) the world cup is comparable to the NBA playoffs & finals - however the World Cup is hosted every 4 years. Personally I am enjoying the games at home, usually alone but sometimes with a couple of friends. I can't help but wonder how people Zimbo are enjoying the World Cup. For those who can afford it there are places like the Sports Diner along Samora Machel Ave. I am assuming most barbecue spots will also have TVs for patrons to watch the World Cup games. What are your predictions for the world cup? The stats favor Brazil therefore I will pick them as the eventual winner of the tournament. Let me know how you are watching the games and who you think will win..............DJ Swing

PS* Click on the following link to see how some fans are enjoying the world cup:
http://i.askask.com/2002/06/worldcupfan.jpg

SARFM Radio

Today I would like to showcase another Internet Radio station doing big things in the heart of New York.

SARFM Was founded by Chaka Ngwenya of the ZBC radio 3 Fame. SARFM brings you the latest in music, news and events with an emphasis on Southern Africa. SARFM provides an alternative to the Southern African audience and focus is on positivity. SARFMs goal is to bring the heart of Africa to the entire world, entertaining and educating the world on issues affecting Africans. You can listen to SARFM online on www.sarfmradio.com. SARFM has a superstar lineup of DJs from around Southern Africa. It may seem there are quite a few online stations in operation today. This is not a bad thin at all as diversity is encouraged. SARFM offers a positive alternative. Again you can listen to SARFM on www.sarfmradio.com. Today I would like to honor Savanna Madamombe. She is involved with the Mwana Ndi Mai initiative. Mwana Ndi Mai is a non profit organization seeking to Provide support for Zimbabwe's "invisible Children", Orphans and families left by musicians who have succumbed to HIV/AIDS in the rural and the urban's high density areas at grassroots level without further breaking the remaining family support system. Zimbabwe is a country suffering a complex humanitarian crisis of drought impacted food shortages, international isolation, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic that has affected more than 25% of its population. More than one in four adults living in Zimbabwe is infected with the AIDS virus. It is estimated that more than 1.5 million Zimbabweans are living with HIV.

My message today is every journey begins with a single step. One person can make a difference and that person is YOU. I would like to encourage everyone to do something - however small to assist with the humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe. No act is too small, whatever you can afford to give in terms of time or resources.

Please visit the Mwana Ndi Mai website on
www.mwanandimai.com

You can email Savanna on:
savanna@mwanandimai.com
info@mwanandimai.com

DJ Swing

Summer Time is Here!

I hope I find you well today. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere the long awaited summer time is finally here. I know I am making a big deal out of a simple change in the seasons but out here this really is a big deal. I am in Michigan and we are in the cold for about 3/4 of the year. When summer time finally comes around we try to maximize on the sunshine, longer days and the higher temperatures. Summer time is when we can attempt to lead lives that resemble what we were used to in the Zimboland. The main event is the barbecues popularly known as Gochi-Gochi. These are social gatherings where we get to mingle with fellow Zimbos and enjoy Mereki style food - Sadza, steak, sliced tomatoes, onions and cucumbers.

Summer time is also a time when we can enjoy Zimbabwe's favorite pastime - soccer. This is a time to get some exercise and for a moment forget about the shifts. There is also a tendency for most weddings to be hosted in the summer time. Let me know how you celebrate the summer in your area....

THAZONET.COM

In Chicago I had a chance to meet Keith Kadete popularly known as DJ Bonde co-founder of thazonet.com. DJ Bonde was previously with ZimNet Radio. DJ Bonde was a guest DJ at the Expo on Sunday night during the farewell party after the dinner and award show. DJ Bonde had a diverse musical selection and managed to rock the house with one track in particular 'Wangu Ndega' featuring Fortune Muparutsa. I have been listening to thazonet.com over the past few days and I really am impressed with both the selection and delivery. ThaZonet is reminiscent of the good old radio 3 when it featured the likes of Peter Jones, Hosiah Singende, Tich Mataz to name a few. ThaZonet has several DJs from all over the world and they play a wide assortment of music from all genres. ThaZonet.com also plays the latest Zimbo urban groves - the likes of Masikiri. There are several Zimbo online stations out there today but thazonet is Zimbabwe's Best Online Entertainment. You can visit ThaZonet on www.thazonet.com and make sure to check out the chat room.

ZimExpo 2006 Chicago

The party this weekend was in Chicago. The event was the 2006 ZimExpo. Friday might we were grace by the presence of Sekuru Thomas 'Mukanya' Mapfumo. Mukanya had an electrifying performance and we had a chance to sample hits from the upcoming album 'Rise Up!' We also got a chance to hear some of Mukanya's greatest hits like Kuenda Mbire and Corruption. He performed for well over 2 hours. Following Mukanya was music provided by yours truly DJ Swing and the Metromedia Sound Crew from Detroit Michigan. Saturday night it was part two of the ZimExpo series of parties. Again the atmosphere was exhilarating. Music was provided by DJ Chaka Ngwenya of the SARFM radio fame, DJ Bonde of thezonenet.com, DJ Lodza and Djs Aftershock and Swing of Detroit. People really enjoyed themselves although there was discontent when hotel management advised the party would end at 2am. The Miss ZimUSA pageant was world class with Miss Makho Ndhlovu taking the crown. Sunday night was the award ceremony followed by a talent show. DJ Swing managed to introduce to the Zimbo crowd the hit in the making 'Pakura.' The talent show was followed by the final phase of the ZimExpo series of parties. DJ Bonde showcased his talents on the turntables exciting the crowd with a mix of Kwaito, Museve and R&B. Its only a week till the much anticipated ZimExpo. Believe it or not but the Renaissance Chicago O'Hare Hotel is already booked to capacity. The party is on. Who is making the great trek to Chicago this year? One thing for sure is the atmosphere is electric. Hertz is working overtime right now coz Zimbos like arriving to the Expo in style. What are you riding to the Expo this year - Benz-o, Bima, Audi, Escalade? We will see. For the fellaz are you coming with your girl or are you hoping to score at the Expo? If you are trying to score @ the Expo let me give you a word of advice - For most it will be next to impossible coz Zimbo girls will not give it up on day one if you are not munigga. You gotta have style and be willing to spend a few dollars to score nemuZimbo. Zvisinei I guarantee everyone who attends the Expo will have a good time. On Friday night Andy Brown is to perform along with Thomas Mapfumo. Its party time Saturday and Sunday nite. Anyone ever notice how when Zimbos come to the stateside they gain 50 pounds or more. Its not that we become lazy or anything but lack of activity and diet are mostly to blame. After eating sadza on a daily basis for all your life, you can expect a change when suddenly one switches over to the McDonalds, Burger King and fast food in general. Because of work commitments (mashift) many fail to maintain the levels of physical activity they were used to in Zim.

Well things are about to change. Every Saturday at stoney creek, DJ Swing will be hosting a soccer match and training. Emphasis is on fitness and hopefully by the end of this summer everyone would have lost a few pounds of fat and regained muscle mass. Training starts at 1pm. What's going on? Well its Thursday nite, well actually Friday Morning out here in Detroit Michigan. So how are you doing today? How have you been coping with the high gas prices? Tough life in the stateside hey?

Well today I simply wanted to perpetuate the idea that we all need to start thinking outside the box to be able to make it in these capitalistic economies. Well I personally grew up with the midset that if you go to school, work hard - you will eventually make it. I later on realized I was a product of social engineering. I had lived all my life believing in the notion that one day an AVERAGE person would be able to rise up and make it. I eventually realized that the persons who had made it were neither average nor had they been conventional in their ways. Bill Gates for example - College Drop Out. Bow Wow make more money that you and my dad combined - yet he just got his drivers license. Tom Cruise, Mr. Lunatic but everyone knows about him from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

Lesson of the day - try not to follow the trends. Be who you are - Esse Quam Videri. Unconventional thinking is what we need, especially in Zimbabwe. One of these days you will attest to the wisdom of DJ. Its Independence Day for Zimbos all over the world. For most Zimbos this day just came and passed by like any other day. We really have no reason to celebrate since most of us have realized that we have not truly attained Independence. Yes we no longer are ruled by the minority but instead we are ruled by hunger, unemployment, inflation, daily price hikes on everything, poor standards of living and lack of freedom. The situation in Zimbabwe today is pathetic and I feel for the lower class as they feel the wrath of the current situation in full force. Aids is killing thousands each day and those affected most are - you guessed it the lower class as they cannot afford proper nutrition and medication. Enough about, let me focus on what we do best - partying. Perhaps this is the subconscious response to all the turmoil in Zim.

On Saturday DJ Aftershock here in Detroit hosted an African party. Turnout was okay but there was trouble with some of the girls who attempted to get in but were under the age of 21. Besides that the party went well and yours truly DJ Swing managed top drop a couple of your old time favorite Zimbo tunes.

On Saturday DJ Swing celebrates another year gone by and everyone is invited. Event is at Rumors bar and Grill in Downtown Pontiac, Michigan. Stay cool ma peoples. The struggle continues.....

ZimExpo 2006

The 2006 ZimExpo Event promises to be the place to be in May. The buzz is definitely on and almost everyone (Zimbos) seem to be talking about the Expo. I know a few who have already started shopping around for outfits for the Expo. A few have also made reservations to the vehicle rental agencies for those flashy vehicles. All is set for the biggest Zimbo bash in the US. Are you attending the Expo this year and where do you hail from? Last year the Expo was held in Washington D.C. and we drove all the way from Michigan. There were attendees from as far as Texas, UK and Zimbabwe. This year at the Expo marks the Debut of recording artist Sekuru Bob. Sekuru Bob's message speaks to the diaspora. You can check out his work on www.sekurubob.com. DJ Swing looks forward to seeing you at the Expo this year. It has been a while since ya'll heard from your host DJ Swing. Well today I would like to showcase an upcoming Zimbo artist known as Sekuru Bob. His work can be seen on www.sekurubob.com. DJ Swing gives sekuru bob an overall rating of five stars. His music speaks to everyone in the diaspora. Here is an excerpt from the site:

Sekuru Bob is a exciting young artist from Zimbabwe by way of Detroit, London and Toronto. Sekuru Bob dreams of a stronger Zimbabwe and those dreams translate into amazing heartfelt songs. With fresh melodies encased in lush musical backdrops the music of Sekuru Bob will entice, soothe, energize and excite you. His lyrics are like chewing gum for the mind. Welcome to the world of a revolutionary poet.

Silver Studios, based in Toronto, Canada is a music production/creative arts studio. We are a part of the Listen Without Borders initiative (http://www.listenwithoutborders.com/).
Listen Without Borders is an umbrella group seeking to provide a voice to the socially and politically conscious world musician. We believe the problems of the world are our problems. Let us sing and share our songs. Our joys, sorrows and dreams. Let us listen without borders. Come celebrate love, life and livity with Silver Studios.

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere". Until we truly "listen without borders" and pursue justice without regard to race, religion and culture, we remain unevolved.

Dhora($)
This song talks about how Zimbabweans go overseas and sacrifice a lot for the sake of having money in their pockets. They take up all sorts of jobs in order to raise money to feed their families back home. Some of these jobs may even affect their health later on in life.

Vanochema
Parents are asking when they are going to see their sons and daughters that have vanished in the Diaspora for a long time without signs of coming back home. It also goes to talk about how the ruling regime is going around destroying people's homes and properties in the so called Operation Murambatsvina, which is illegal.

Step Down
This is a very polite message to the Zimbabwean leadership that is not willing to give up or share power. It is a message asking them to give up power to the younger generation that can save our country from total collapse. They do not want to admit that they have failed and are running the country like their own bedrooms.

Musandidzorera
Please don't send me back home. I have stayed overseas for a long time now and all my relatives have fled the country in search of greener pastures in the USA , Mozambique , Botswana , SA, UK , etc. Police officers please don't send me back because my kids are American, and I have acquired properties here in the USA as well.

Chitsiga
A tree stub is being identified as an obstacle to unity, peace economic prosperity as well as political and social stability. This obstacle has been standing for too long and now is the time to remove it. It has forced people to leave the country for Dallas , London , New York . Jo'burg, and even in some cities that are beyond our imagination. Now is the time to take action.

Musha waparara
We have reached the final phase of Zimbabwe 's downfall. People have abandoned this country and are not willing to work together to find a solution. Nobody has the guts to stand up and challenge the very corrupt and illegitimate leadership that is ruling our country Zimbabwe . People cannot afford basic commodities and prices are rising overnight.

DJ Swing Birthday bash

On Aprill 22nd 2006 join us at Rumors Bar and Grill in Michigan for the DJ Swing birthday bash. I grew up in the Eastern Highlands (kumakomoyo) and this picture represents what I grew up around. It was a picture of tranquility and serenity. The mountains of the Eastern Highlands represented abundance. Abundance in rainfall, food and quality of life. I remember how we used to go to the Chipinge-Chimanimani mountains for a quiet weekend. As I said before this was a land of abundance - almost like the biblical garden of Eden. There were fruits like apples, peaches, raspberries, plums, apricots to mention a few. Well the situation is a lot different now. We talk of Zim dollars in the millions because of depreciation, production of fruits and vegetables is almost zero because of the non-competent individuals allotted farms and as if to add salt to a gaping wound, droughts ravage the Zimbo countryside. My prediction is it is a while till Zimbo gets back to the state of abundance. It is a while till the situation is back to where it was before. I am sure you can relate to my sentiments. Things have definitely changed - for the worst. Millions are living in the diaspora and the ones that remained in the Zimboland are living hand to mouth. I came across this site and I recommend it to any Zimbo in the diaspora. The site is www.sekurubob.com and Sekuru Bob expresses his heartfelt convictions about the Zimbo situation. Let me know what you think about the current state of affairs in Zimbo........DJ Swing.

Tanga!

Well this is a Shona word that simply means "you go first!" Well here is the deal. I don't mean to generalize but through observations I have noticed Zimbos suffer from what I shall coin today the 'Tanga' syndrome. I am sure those of you reading with any foresight already see where I am going with this one. To break it down I have noticed Zimbos in general suffer from this ailment. Its almost like when we were kids, particularly little boys before a fight erupts one would always say "tanga" meaning you go first. Generally Zimbos will not initiate a venture, business or otherwise unless someone else is in the forefront or several others have done the same. It is not that there is lack of creativity, but only a few select are bold enough to set precedence. In politics for example, everyone has something to comment about on the current state of affairs in the Zimboland. It took a brave soldier A.G.O Mutambara to decide I will return to my motherland to set things straight. Some say he has hidden agendas and so on. Agendas or not it is still a brave feat to decide I am going back to put his reputation, life and family on the line for what many consider a lost cause. Well I mean not to criticize but simply to encourage creativity and initiative. For most in the diaspora it has become hardwired in their brains that they will only find employment in the DOT COMS. Who says you cannot be working in the Barclays world headquarters, who says you cannot work for NASA, who the hell told you you can not establish your own enterprise? I currently reside in the US and in the years I have been here I come across this everyday. I am not at all suggesting that copying is bad - not at all. Sometimes there really is no point in re-inventing the wheel. The issue is eventually people get comfortable in their ways and fail to realize their full potentials. Even AGO stated the 'sky is the limit.' To all those trendsetters - keep the fire burning. Your comments please........DJ Swing

<img src="http://www.audioblogger.com/media/images/audioblogger.gif" class="audImg"border="0" alt="this is an audio post - click to play" />

Its March already!

I can't believe its March already. Time is flying by. We are inching closer to the April 18th - Zimbo independence day. The actual 18th is on a Tuesday so most celebrations are being held on Saturday, the 22nd. As I said earlier I can't believe its March already. In the US most have received and spent their tax refunds, in Zimbo the schoolkids look forward to the school closing, in the UK its madot com as usual. As we inch closer to the spring/summer I cannot wait till its warm enough to barbecue outside. MaZimbo you know we love our braais as we call em back home. Nothing much interesting is happening right now besides in the political scene. The Mutambara buzz is still going on and shall be fading soon I predict. Zimbos like kids have a short attention span and interest is lost as soon as something new comes up. Remember how it was all Jonathan Moyo talk a few months ago? We will see what happens. Gotta give it up for Mutambara though for putting himself and his credibility on the line. Hopefully this will incite the next generation Zimbos to come back home and try to change things. I doubt it though coz most can't give up the Pounds and the USAs. When do you see yourself (diaspora) going back to Zimbo to stay? Holla back............

Welcome Back

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen. Its Monday afternoon and the weekend has come and gone. Making the headlines again in the Zimbo newspapers is....you guessed, none other than A.G.O. Mutambara. I read his acceptance speech online and he made a bold move by calling on the MDC factions to reunite and offering his position of leadership should he lose in fresh elections with both factions involved. I still think he will have a difficult time defeating the ZANU PF camp even though Mugabe does not participate.Back to Mutambara and his acceptance speech. Again I think it was a noble gesture to offer up leadership in the event he loses in fresh elections to be held under the reunified MDC. Its is also noteworthy how he commended both Mugabe and Tsvangirai for being heroes in their own regards. This move shows the man is not yet affected by the power hunger that seems to be rampant in Zimbo politics. In any case he lives true to the shona proveb that says "Gudo guru peta muswe vadiki vakutye." This loosely translates to a person in a position of power must humble himself to obtain the respect of those below you. Thanks again for tuning in.....Pamberi nekubatana!

Enough Politics!

Okay, we've had enough politics talk already. Its creeping towards the weekend and I am in party central mode. Today I wanna discuss the greatest musicians to grace the Zimboland. My personal favorite Zimbo musicians in no particular order are Oliver Tuku Mutukudzi, Simon Chopper Chimbetu, Leonard Karikoga Zhakata and John Chibadura. Being outside of Zimbabwe makes one appreciate Zimbo music more. I remember back in the day when we used to say "local music inomakisa." To my international audience this meant one was almost embarrassed to admit he/she enjoyed the local music as it was often associated with the 'lower' classes - maids, garden boys and the rural folk. As we grew up and moved out of Zimbabwe we began to really appreciate the uniqueness of the Zimbo sound. Unlike our politics the Zimbo music scene has been blessed with what I personally classify as heroes - Simon Chimbetu, Tuku, Mapfumo, Chibadura, Zhakata, Andy Brown, Bhundu Boys, James Chmombe, Marshall Munhumumwe to name a few. The music scene these days is also impressive. We have hip hop pioneers like Shingirai 'Mau Mau' and the late Kingpin. If only Zim Politics was like our music industry. Zimbos we have something to be proud about - our heritage; marimba, mbira nehosho. Let me know who your favorite Zimbo musician is.......DJ Swing

Bob vs Mutambara

I usually try to avoid politics on this site since everyone is talking politics these days. The main reason I started this blog is to provide an alternative to what everyone is writing about online these days. For Zimbabwe politics news there are unlimited sources like newzimbabwe.com, zimdaily.com, The Herald, Sunday Mail, Fingaz etc. The reason I decided to comment on this issue is because of a readers comment who asked me what I had to say about the Mutambara and MDC issue. I was privileged to attend the same high schools as both Mugabe and Mutambara. I attended Kutama College for the first four years of high school and Mugabe would make regular appearances on campus. Mugabe's home is located just outside the Kutama College fence. I first heard of Arthur Mutambara when I was at Hartzell High. I was there for the last two years of my high schooling. Mutambara was long gone then but his legacy at the school still remained. Now back to the issue at hand. As far as I have researched Mutambara is an academic genius and has a very impressive academic resume. My honest opinion is he stands very little chance against Mugabe and his camp at this time. Politics in Zimbabwe is different is all I can say. Although well know in the Zimbabwean academic circles. Mutambara is virtually non-existent in certain parts of the country. Ask Sekuru Nzungu (fictional) in Dodito who Mutambara is and he will have absolutely no clue. The other problem is Mutambara is joining MDC at a time when the party is split. Support is divided between the two MDC factions and divided like this it will be next to impossible to tackle the giant ZANU PF. Again Mutambara is a well respected Zimbabwean but his move into politics may spoil his good name. Zimbos will expect change too fast and too soon. The state of the situation is Zimbabwe needs time to correct. Inflation is creeping towards 1000%, AIDS is killing millions, persistent droughts occur, the new farmers fail to produce, corruption is rampant, brain drain is at its worst.....Mutambara alone will not cure Zimbabwe's ailments. In conclusion in a theoretical Bob vs Mutambara showdown, Bob will emerge on top. Let me know what you think....

Sunday Evening

Welcome to Zimbo party central. This is your host DJ Swing....Its Sunday night and I'm chillin' out after a nite of partying in the D - that's Detroit for all ya first time visitors to the blog. So I was hanging out at Trenchtown last nite - had a blast. Well Trenchtown is an after-hours reggae club out here. It is open from 2 am till around 6am. Music is mostly reggae dancehall and there is a little hip hop here and there to accommodate the local crowd. Check out Trenchtown on http://www.strictlyrootsmusic.com/ or www.detroitreggae.com. I got home around 7 in the mornin' and I pretty much slept the entire day. I woke up later during the day and enjoyed an ice cold beer to cure the hangover. Swing

DJ Swing II

In case any of you out there are wondering who DJ Swing really is, here is one of my pics in action. Again the theme is mafaro/happiness. Well today I was passing through the local BMW and couldn't help but wonder how life would be if I had a bima. You know how Zimbos would rather pay through the nose to own one of these 'Ultimate Driving Machines' To most Zimbos the rewards are worth the price one has to pay for this piece of German engineering. Its mostly a guy thing, a nice car = all the beauties you can handle. For some reason this piece of equipment is a girl magnet. A few ladies (Zimbos) are now driving around in these vehicles. You can't help but notice the sense of pride and accomplishment as one steps out of a 5 series. With my current situation the only place I will own one of these is - you guessed it, in my dreams.....Ndichaitenga chete, ndicaitenga neshungu as Mukadota used to sing. Let me know your thoughts on this - know anyone in the UK or US proudly sporting his BIMA.........

2006 Independence Celebrations

I know we are still a couple of months from April but in most US and UK locales plans are already underway for Independence Day Celebrations. Zimbabwe's independence was attained on April 18, 1980 and it has become tradition for most in the diaspora to celebrate this ocassion. Most of this year's celebrations will be hosted either on April 15 or April 22 which happen to be Saturdays. The actual day April 18 will fall on a weekday. In the US the state of Texas has a considerable Zimbo population and celebrations are anticipated to be big. Do you know of or are you planning any independence day celebrations? Let us know. Chihure murikunyanya! This is inspired by one of the comments made about the Zim Expo. The person wrote about how the Expo has turned from a business Consortium to a mere social gathering. He went on to mention how he thinks 90% of the Zimbos in the US have Aids. While this stat may not be true it is becoming concerning how Zimbos are spreading the HIV. Rumor has it that the UK is really bad when it comes to Zimbos and the spread of the V. In a related story as reported by zimdaily.com - Zinatha is advocating for the ban of condoms in Zim saying this is leading to moral decay in the Zimbabwean society. Truth is maZimbo anoda kukwira. Banning condoms will do no good at all. Well I leave you with these words my fellow Zimbos. Please strap it up and take it easy on the playin'. This goes for men an women alike - oh yes Zimbo women are now as bad as the guys. In Zimbo we used to refer to the depression associated to January as 'January Disease'. One of the major factors attributing to this 'January Disease' is debt. In January kids are back to school and we have just come from the Xmas and new year's holidays where we probably overspent a lil bit. We all know how expensive school fees were in Zim. Above that kids needed uniforms and school supplies. The situation is almost the same to Zimbos overseas. One good thing out here is most primary school kids don't have to pay school fees, the US the end of January spells minor releif for some as we receive those widely anticipated tax refund checks. To most this is a time to let loose and enjoy the small fortune. Dont forget kubhadhara zvikweriti nema credit cards and also to save up for Zim Expo 2006. Let us know your thoughts on this. Newzimbabwe.com Reports "ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe visited a top South African clinic on Friday, sparking a volley of speculation over his health." He has referred to himself as the 'youngest old man in Zimbabwe', Which is true in a sense. Mugabe led Zimbabwe to independence in 1980 but his status as a revolutionary hero has diminished over the years due to Zimbabwe's ailing economy. Corruption is rampant in Zimbabwe and inflation rates are among the highest in the WORLD. Mugabe blames the 'West' for most of Zimbabwes woes. I am not sure how to politely put this point across but in a nutshell the passing of Mugabe might be the answer to Zimbabwe's problems OR will it be the beginning of the end? If such an event was to occur there are two possibilities;
-This might bring a mental and psychological boost to Zimbabwe and we will go back to our status as the bread basket of Africa
-His passing will mean more factions among the ruling ZANU PF leading to a state of turmoil. This was my first time at one of these Expos. I had never seen such a large gathering of Zimbos in one place in the Stateside. The event was well organized and I managed to see a lot of fellow Zimbos I used to know from back in the day - some I preferred I would rather have not met. It was a three-day event during the Memorial Day weekend (Friday through Sunday). I arrived in DC on Saturday and was mostly interested in the party that occurred during the evening. The party commenced around 9pm and there was variety in the musical selection ranging from mainstream hip-hop & R&B to Zimbabwean music. I enjoyed the night but I would like to mention Zimbo girls were acting kinda snobby. My biggest beef is with Zimbos (both men and women) who act all American in the company of fellow Zimbos. If all that attended wanted to be around American chicks/men all they had to do was go to the local bars. Overall it was a positive experience and I cannot wait for the 2006 Expo in Chicago. Post your thoughts on the 2005 Zim Expo if you attended. Will we be seeing you this year in Chicago????
